Before establishing Bayou City Public Relations, Sharon headed the external communications departments at the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Authority of Harris County and the Sam Houston Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. As a member of the media relations staff at the University of Houston, one of her chief responsibilities was securing news coverage for the College of Business.

Sharon built her PR career on years of experience as a newspaper reporter, magazine editor and freelance copywriter for hire. She has been published in Rand-McNally travel guides, Seventeen, Boys’ Life, Southwest Spirit, Houston Chronicle, Successful American Entrepreneur, Texas Magazine, Houston City Magazine, Ultra, Texas Highways, Houston Woman Magazine and many others. She was a columnist for Houston Business Journal.

A Track Record

copywriter HoustonA 25-year veteran of the media and public relations field, Sharon has won many awards from the country’s recognized PR professional organizations, including Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), National Association of Mental Health Information Officers and Texas Public Relations Association (TPRA). In 2003 and 2004, she won five PR awards including an IABC Bronze Quill Award of Excellence and a PRSA Gold Excalibur.

As an accredited member of the PRSA since 1993, she is a leader in the Houston PR community where she has served on the boards of both PRSA-Houston chapter and TPRA. She served on the board of Houston Financial Council for Women. The Federation of Houston Professional Women honored her as a Woman of Excellence.

Sharon attended the University of Missouri School of Journalism and is a journalism graduate of the University of Houston. She completed the public relations post-graduate curriculum at Syracuse University’s S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
